Sabres New Core Loaded with Brass

I know we all want a silver (and nickel alloy) trophy.

Still, it’s always wise to appreciate what’s in your trophy cabinet.  For the Buffalo Sabres up-and-coming New Core of forwards and defenseman, that cabinet is stocked.  A list:

  • Tyler Myers – NHL Rookie of the Year, 2010 (no AHL experience); WHL Playoff MVP, 2009; Ed Chynoweth (Championship) Cup, 2009 (WHL)
  • Tyler Ennis –  AHL Rookie of the Year, 2010; Brad Hornung (Most Sportsmanlike) Trophy, 2008 and 2009 (WHL); Ed Chynoweth Cup, 2007 (WHL)
  • Mike Weber – AHL All Star, 2010; Amerks Man of the Year, 2008
  • Mark Mancari – AHL All Star, 2008; AHL Record 102.8 mph “Hardest Shot,” 2008; Brian Kilrea (community involvement) Award, 2005 (Ottawa 67’s, OHL)
  • Chris Butler – Second Team All Star, 2008 (NCAA), (only 27 AHL games played)
  • Andrej Sekera – Member of 2010 Slovakian Men’s Ice Hockey Olympic Team; Max Kominsky (Best Defenseman) Trophy, 2006 (OHL); OHL All Star, 2006
  • Marc-Andre Gragnani – Eddie Shore (Best Defenseman) Award, 2011 (AHL);   Rookie of the Year, 2008 (Rochester Americans, AHL)
  • Nathan Gerbe – AHL All Star, 2010; AHL Rookie of the Year, 2009; NCAA Championship, 2008; Frozen Four Tournament Most Outstanding Player (NCAA), 2008; USA Hockey’s National College Player of the Year, 2008
  • *Luke Adam – AHL All Star, 2011; All Rookie Team (AHL) 2011; All Star (QMJHL), 2010

The "Dudley 'Red' Garrett Memorial Award," for the AHL's top rookie, has blue and gold all over it.

*Adam is the front-runner for this year’s top AHL rookie.  The award could be the third of its kind in a row for the Portland Pirates/Buffalo Sabres, and would mark the first time the feat is accomplished in the AHL.

Drew Schiestel is also an AHL All Star defenseman for the Pirates this season, but his career is not detailed as he has yet to lace up n Buffalo.

Are your eyes tired?  That is certainly a lot of information to sift through, and I didn’t include World Junior Championship accolades.  There is just too much to list.

As the Old Core of Miller, Vanek, Roy, Pominville et al begin to play their final seasons together for the Blue and Gold, it’s nice to say the Sabres are in safe hands for years to come.

Go Sabres.

That’s a nice list & the Sabres have a bright future. I know he doesn’t have any hardware but Enroth should also be on this list.
