Sabres/Canadiens Game Alert: Carey Price Leaves Practice with Injury

According to Francois Gagnon, Carey Price left practice today, with what looked like a knee ailment.

Nothing could ever look like bad news in French.

Translation: “C-B for the training of the Sabres. Nothing to report. In Brossard, Carey Price (right knee) left the workout. Details to come…”

He followed up that news break with the following:

Great, I have to translate, again.

Translation: “Jacques Martin confirmed to reporters that Carey Price will be in goal against the Sabres. Yannick Weber and Brent Sopel removed.”

I certainly wouldn’t wish injury on any player, so even as a Sabres fan, this knee ailment is not good news.  However, it does mean that the possibility remains that Martin might have to go with his backup against Buffalo tonight.

In 13 games played, Alex Auld is 6-2-1 with a save percentage of .920 (equal to Price) and a GAA of 2.39 (.01 higher than Price).

If Price does make it in-between the pipes tonight, then I’d hope the Sabres would elect to drop him into the butterfly as often as possible, to take advantage of the weakness. Landing could be painful, and it could be more difficult for Price to get back up.  Lateral movement can suffer as well.

Pepper him, boys.

Tip-o-the-sunglasses to Phil over at Black & Blue and Gold, and to Tom over at Beeshack Dot Com for providing that goaltending advice today.

Go Sabres.
